The track itself is by Peco (who else?) and appearances can be deceptive. Although it is to the O Gauge
track width, the spacing of the sleepers would be far too great for mainline practice. This is because the model
track is intended to represent the 2-foot gauge prototype.
Some thought was given to covering the boards with roofing felt, but we thought that that would only introduce
another maintenance headache when the felt had to be pierced by the track fixings, leaving us with uncertainties
as to what would be happening to the boards underneath. In the end we went for marine ply, liberally coated with
that stuff which is reputed to do exactly what it says on the tin.
The supports are plastic drain pipes, set into concrete bases, and then filled with concrete to
make them rugged. It would be a "phallusy" to interpret the chimney of the Cement Works in the background
as anything else.
